The Academic Citizen (TAC) is an independent podcast series that is supported by the Academic Staff Association of Wits University (ASAWU). Established in April 2016, The Academic Citizen explores a diversity of topics and opinions relating to higher education in South Africa, today and into the future.

Each episode welcomes a guest for an in-depth discussion of a particular issue relevant to university life today. Every episode begins and ends with a ‘Student Voice’ providing a glimpse into student perspectives on the topic at hand.
This podcast is hosted by Dr Nosipho Mngomezulu who holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from Rhodes University and Kholeka B. Shange, who pursuing a PhD in History of Art at Wits. Research, scheduling, editing and production is done by Simbarashe Honde, who holds an Honours Degree in Journalism and Media Studies and currently doing his Masters at Wits.
The podcast is weekly, and goes live on Wednesdays before midnight.
